Emerging Role of Rail in SLC State Transportation and Economic Development Plans
An increasing number of states are exploring ways to leverage the role of rail, encompassing both passenger and cargo, to secure their economic development and transportation priorities.  Georgia is one such state, and this session provides legislative perspectives on this effort along with details—by a major North American railroad company, CSX—on the expansive role played by railroads in the nation’s transportation network.

Secure, Smart and Swift Flows of Commerce at the Southern Border
Texas is monumentally important in our international trade calculations given that the state has the second busiest land port alongside six of the top 12 busiest land ports on the U.S.-Mexico border.  This session focuses on what actions policymakers at every level of government can initiate to ensure the secure, smart and swift flow of commerce at our Southern border

Short Update on the South East U.S. - Canada Trade Association
The Southeast U.S. - Canada Trade Association includes six Southeastern states (Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee) and seven Canadian provinces (Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Québec).  The Association was formed in November 2007 to promote trade, investment, tourism, educational and friendship ties between these Southeastern states and Canadian provinces.

Oklahoma's Economic Development Efforts
At a time when state budgets are under great fiscal strain, this session presents information on how Oklahoma continues to advance economic development projects, including details on how the state promotes greater trade relations with Latin America and East Asia and links Oklahoma entrepreneurs with sources of venture capital funding from both within and outside the state.

In a fiscal environment with complex challenges, states continue to compete aggressively with each other to secure economic development projects.  Site selectors play an important role and this session discusses the critical ingredients state economic development officials need to focus on to retain and attract both major and minor economic development projects.

Oklahoma's Efforts to Boost the Motion Picture Industry
Inspired by Louisiana’s 2002 path-breaking legislation, numerous states, including many Southern states, have enacted legislation and other steps to enhance the activities of the motion picture industry within their borders.  This presentation focuses on Oklahoma’s efforts in this connection and the tremendous economic impact of promoting the motion picture industry.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Training Academy
The Committee will tour the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Training Academy, the FAA's premier training academy for air traffic controllers and other technicians in the aviation community.  After traveling a short distance by bus to the riverfront, Committee members will board a ferry to cross the Oklahoma River to arrive in the vicinity of the FAA.  During the ferry ride, members will be provided lunch along with a short presentation on the recent economic development and revitalization efforts in Oklahoma City.
