Arts & Culture

Oklahoma City Museum of ArtThe spectacular Oklahoma City Museum of Art features an amazing permanent collection and special exhibitions. It also holds the world’s largest, most comprehensive exhibit by glass sculptor Dale Chihuly, including the iconic 55-foot glass tower in the three-story atrium. With 15 galleries, the museum regularly hosts world-class traveling exhibitions including Roman Art from the Louvre opening in June.

Downtown & Bricktown

Downtown Oklahoma City reverberates with the energy of commerce by day and the rhythms of entertainment by night. With its large concentration of high-energy night clubs, casual lounges and list of restaurants covering a multitude of culinary cultures, Bricktown has something for every taste. Family Fun

Oklahoma City also has its share of fast-paced, family-friendly attractions. Located in the city’s Adventure District you’ll find the Oklahoma City Zoo and Science Museum Oklahoma with its Omnidome large-format theater. In its new home across from the State Capitol, the 215,000-square-foot Oklahoma History Center offers a chance to explore Oklahoma’s unique story through interactive exhibits covering geology, transportation, commerce, culture aviation, heritage and more. Just 30 minutes south of Oklahoma City is the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History on the campus of the University of Oklahoma in Norman. This museum boasts thousands of artifacts tracing Oklahoma’s natural history, including dinosaur fossils and Native American cultural exhibits.

With the Cox Business Services Convention Center’s arena just across the street from the Ford Center, downtown is buzzing with people out on the town during game nights. Fans can also be found cheering on the Oklahoma RedHawks Triple-A baseball team at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The “Brick” is recognized as one of the top minor league ballparks in the country.

REMINDERS

» Change in Schedule! (2008 ONLY) This year's SLC Annual Meeting runs from Friday, July 11, through Tuesday, July 15. This is a change from our usual Saturday to Wednesday schedule.
» SLC Rules require that all proposed policy positions be submitted a minimum of 21 calendar days in advance of the Annual Meeting. For 2008, all proposed policy positions must be received in the Atlanta office by June 20.
» SLC Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, on the first floor of the Cox Convention Center.
» All publicized SLC committee sessions are open to all conferees regardless of formal committee appointments or affiliations; however, meal service can only be made available to appointed members of the specified committee in session.
» Dress for committee meetings is business casual. Dress for family and spouse activities is casual unless otherwise indicated. Dress for the State Dinner is business formal.
