This session will focus on the role both fossil fuels and renewable energy sources will play in Southern states in the years to come.  It will include presentations that will address, among other topics, cellulosic ethanol production, lithium-ion batteries, and coal-to-liquid technology.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 includes $47 billion for renewable energy, smart grid, and energy efficiency programs, as well as an additional $20 billion in the form of tax incentives.  This session will examine how these funds will affect the Southern states and what role they will play in the South’s energy future.
