Q:

How has the partisan makeup of the state senate and house changed in the SLC region over the past 20 years? 

A:

The past two decades have seen steady increases in Republican representation in Southern state legislatures.  In 1985, both chambers were split roughly 80 percent to 20 percent in favor of Democrats.  By 2005, the region was essentially evenly split between the two parties.  The figures below illustrate this.
