Question
of the Month - November 2004
How did the SLC states fare in terms of federal government expenditures by
state in fiscal year 2003?
On October 7, 2004, the federal government released
information indicating the amount of federal dollars flowing to states in fiscal
year 2003. This information was based on two reports: The Consolidated Federal
Funds report that covered benefits, subsidies, grants, goods and services, and
salaries and wages; and the Federal Aid to States report that covered grants to
states and local governments. As expected, these reports are of great interest
to a range of different players ranging from states to localities to interest
groups to individual policymakers as they seek to leverage additional funds from
the federal government. The table below presents information for the 16 SLC
states extracted from the Consolidated Federal Funds report.
