Johnny Morris, Bass Pro Shops Founder
Johnny Morris, founder and CEO of Bass Pro Shops, has earned a reputation as one of the most visionary and influential retailers and conservationist of the last 50 years. With countless awards and recognitions for his work, Johnny is one of the country’s most established leaders in conservation, working to ensure natural habitats, wildlife and the outdoors remain healthy and abundant for future generations to protect and enjoy.
Johnny got his start in 1972 by selling fishing tackle out of the back of his father’s store in the heart of the Ozarks in Willard, Missouri. Since then, he has pioneered the concept of destination retail and created an outdoor gear enterprise. With more than 100 retail stores and marine centers across North America and 20,000 associates welcoming more than 120 million visitors annually, Bass Pro Shops is one of the most beloved and well-recognized brands in North America.
In the more than four decades since founding his iconic stores, Johnny has established a personal legacy that spans national initiatives and extensive partnerships supporting conservation organizations. He also has supported numerous outreach programs designed to engage multicultural and urban audiences with outdoor activities, as well as several youth-focused nonprofit organizations and sponsored events helping to foster the next generation of outdoor stewards.
